And please tell your neighbors and friends to encourage them to participate with us! Thanks, Board Meeting ChangesThe next Board Meeting is April 5. Snow Storm Damage Article(2010-03-02)Autumn Leaves Clean-UpAutumn leaves start out beautiful, but eventually they become just a mess on the lawn. Fall clean-up of leaves is not a chore most gardeners look forward to. Some gardeners wonder if it is even necessary to rake leaves. Won't the leaves just compost naturally on the lawn? Yes they will. If you only have a few leaves, you may be better off letting them blow off into the bushes, turning into mulch and fertilizer. Or your might want to run the lawn mower over them and let them feed the lawn. But if you have substantial leaves, so many that you can't see the lawn underneath, the leaves will smother and kill the grass long before they turn into fertilizer. If that is the case, one way or another, you are gong to have to collect the leaves from your lawn and there really aren't that many options. Leaf Raking Options
Whatever method of leaf clean-up you choose, don't push the leaves to the curb for pick-up. Think of fall leaves as garden gold. Leaf mold, or semi-rotting leaves, is high in nutrients and adds substantial organic matter to your soil. You can create leaf mold very easily by simply piling all your leaves and letting them sit for a year or so. The bottom of the pile will begin decomposing first and can be used as a soil amendment or mulch. Shredded leaves can also be used as a mulch. The leaves must be dry to shred, but moisten them immediately after mulching or the wind will carry them all back onto your lawn. Don't use unshredded leaves. Unshredded leaves will mat together and form a dense layer that won't allow water to pass through. Both shredded and unshredded leaves can be used as the 'brown' component in your active compost pile. As I mentioned above, dry leaves piled alone will eventually decompose into leaf mold, which is a type of compost. But combining dry leaves with green garden waste will result in an actively decomposing pile and will speed the process. The article Rake Leaves and Make Compost & Mulch in About's Landscaping section, does a good job of explaining the difference of using leaves as compost as opposed to mulch. Both are great uses for your leaves. (2010-02-10) Annual Eggstravaganza and Vendor Registration

(2008-08-16)The Villages of Park Glen mineral rights ownership has been resolved. After a month of meetings and research, it has been determined that Hillwood Energy retained their mineral rights as each and every lot and block was sold to the home builders.
A phone conference between the Park Glen HOA Manager Jessica Whisenhunt and the PG HOA President Veronica Zerpa with Mark Rollins of Hillwood Energy confirmed what the gas committee learned several days before by making a trip to the courthouse to research deeds.
I would like to thank each and every one that had assisted me with this deal for their time and energy. Although the outcome was not in our financial favor, I think by having Hillwood owning the mineral rights will work in our favor to help preserve the integrity of our beloved neighborhoods and parks from the ravages of gas well drilling and the associated pipeline construction and truck traffic, not to mention the noise from the gas wells.

(2008-06-28)Quick: What is Park Glen's single most expensive activity during the year? Amazingly, it's the annual election of PGNA board members. The process of printing and mailing of ballots eats up a good portion of the budget, yet historically very few homeowners participate in the process.
Last year the PGNA board added a new, high-tech way of voting that made it easier than ever to cast a ballot: the internet. We will use the same process this year.
Homeowners will be mailed ballots with unique control numbers. The ballot will direct them to a web site where they can cast their votes after being verified by the control number.
Of course, homeowners can still vote either at the annual meeting or via mail-proxy.

(2008-04-12)The ISO's (Insurance Service Office) Public Protection Classification (PPC) Program establishes fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties.
What is the PPC program?
ISO collects information on municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout
the United States. In each of those communities, ISO analyzes relevant data using a Fire
Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). This schedule is used to measure the major elements
of a community's fire suppression system to include how well a community receives fire
alarms and dispatches it firefighting resources, the community's fire resources and its
water supply. From this communities are then assigned a Public Protection Classification
from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents exemplary public protection, and Class 10 indicates that
the area's fire-suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum criteria.
What is Fort Worth's Rating?
As of September of 2007, Fort Worth's rating improved from a Class 3 to a Class 2. This
improved rating could result in a decrease in your homeowners insurance premiums. Homeowners
should contact their insurance agent for further information.
Come and join us for a Town Hall Meeting! The meeting will be held on March 31 from 7-9pm at the Alliance Baptist Church at 8400 Park Vista Blvd. You will get the opportunity to hear what is going on locally in your district and get a chance to meet the following people:

The PID 6 Advisory Board has decided to cancel the 2008 PID 6 Easter Egg Scramble. The event was a success in past years due to a dedicated team of committee members who planned the event and the efforts of all the volunteers from our community.
Sadly, this year finds us with only one committee member and a shortage of volunteers. We are hopeful that members of the community will volunteer their time over the next year to help plan this event and in 2009 the Easter Bunny can reappear in PID 6.

Unfortunately, the incidents of smashed windshields continue. Vehicles throughout PID 6 have had their windshields smashed with rocks and bricks from homeowner's front yards. Most of these incidents have happened between 6 p.m. & 11 p.m, which leads the PID 6 Patrol to believe they are being committed by teenagers who are possibly using bikes to ride throughout PID 6. If you see any suspicious behavior in your neighborhood please call 911. If you have a tip, e-mail PID 6 Patrol.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for tips that lead to the arrests of individuals involved this vandalism. You can remain anonymous. Call 817-469-TIPS.
(2007-10-29)With the recent drop in temperatures and more falling leaves are a reminder that homeowners can prepare their lawns, gardens, and flower beds in preparation for the winter months ahead. Other handy reminders for your autumn "to do" list may include covering the outdoor water facets on the outside of your home to prevent frozen pipes, mulching in grass clippings as lawns will soon go dormant for the winter months, cleaning out the dead plants from the flower beds around your home, pruning trees and bushes that have gone dormant, or adding pre-emergent to the lawns are all steps that can be taken to have hardier and healthier trees, shrubs, plants and lawns next spring. We appreciate your input and welcome those interested in volunteerism in Park Glen.

To ensure we have enough t-shirts and to enlist as a volunteer, please send an e-mail ASAP to Tammy Combs. (2007-08-23)Park Glen Neighborhood Association Members, Recently a letter was mailed out to the Park Glen Neighborhood Association members informing them of the Keller ISD High School Boundary Adjustment. The letter stated the HSJB2 plan would keep Park Glen intact. The Association apologizes for the erroneous information printed regarding the HSJB2 plan. In fact, there is currently NO plan that keeps Park Glen together. The HSJB2 plan actually separates Parkview, The Hills, The Glen, and The Vistas from everyone else.
In summary, there are three plans in review; the HSJB2 plan has the most potential to be modified to put all of Park Glen together at Central. To move for this modification, it is extremely important to make your voices heard by sending emails to the KISD Board Members and the BARC Board members. Please see the article below (Keller ISD High School Boundary Adjustment) for the list of email addresses and more information on the KISD Boundary Adjustment. It should also be noted that we are discussing KISD only. There is a portion of Park Glen that falls in Birdville ISD.
Thank you,
Park Glen Neighborhood Association

(2007-08-17)It has been brought to the attention of the Park Glen Boundary Committee that there are some Park Glen residents going around bad-mouthing Fossil Ridge. As the Park Glen Boundary Committee has stated in past meetings, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Fossil Ridge High School. Prior to 2001, Park Glen residents proudly attended Fossil. Those of us who have gone around collecting signatures door-to-door have heard nothing but positive remarks about this school from the parents of children who had attended it. Our argument to stay in Central is based on facts. The facts are that Park Glen was a completed community before Central opened its doors and has been the anchor community for CHS since. Park Glen has been rezoned more than any other community in the district and should not have to move again to accommodate the growth of other communities. If the KISD Board chooses to put the entire community or even a significant portion into Central, then yes, a lot of For Sale signs will go up and your property values will likely drop. However, this will be do to the fact that no-one will want to be rezoned AND send their children to an overcrowded school that continues to grow, not due to anything wrong with FRHS. If you hear anyone spreading incorrect information about FRHS, please correct them on the spot.

(2007-09-14)OK folks, it's our last chance for a while to impress upon the Keller ISD Board that Park Glen is serious about our boundaries. Please attend the KISD board meeting Monday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. with your yellow shirts on - unless you are addressing the board. I have shirts to give if you have a friend who needs one. We need a strong showing - bring someone with you if you can!

Like most of us, you probably assumed the beautiful, eight-acre stretch of land along the Trinity River Hike and Bike Trail, near Rogers Road, is a city park. But, in fact, it's private property, recently purchased by Chesapeake Energy. Chesapeake plans to remove more than two acres of the trees there to drill up to eight wells for natural gas, under Colonial Country Club and Union Pacific rail yard.
A growing number of concerned citizens are working to persuade Chesapeake to move its drilling site a few hundred feet to the north to the Union Pacific industrialized area. If this were done, the eight-acre tree grove could be spared and steps could be taken to convert it to a park.
A City-sponsored Public Forum regarding this issue is being held:
Thursday, September 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Capstone Church, 1700 Rogers Road
This is the building with the University Park Church sign.
If you care about saving what many consider the most beautiful section of the Trinity Trail system, show your support by coming to the Forum along with your friends and family.
Speak out and voice your opinion. Speak out for the trees. Speak out for Fort Worth.

(2007-02-09)The City of Fort Worth will collect Christmas trees as part of its normal yard waste pickup schedule following the Christmas holidays.
City residents can place their Christmas trees by the curb on their weekly pickup day. The trees may be up to 10 feet tall. Flocked trees are acceptable for curbside collection. Trees CANNOT contain holiday decorations, stands or lights. Residents should NOT put the trees in plastic bags or other containers. The trees should be left uncovered when set out for collection.
The deadline is Feb. 2 for putting Christmas trees that are up to 10 feet tall in residents' normal yard waste pickup. After Feb. 2, residents still can place their Christmas trees curbside as normal yard waste pickup. However, if the Christmas tree is more than 8 feet tall, it must be cut in half. The city's yard waste collection crew will take the trees to be recycled into mulch.
Residents with questions about their pickup schedule can contact the city's Customer Service Center at 817-392-EASY (3279).
Residents also may dispose of their Christmas trees by taking them to either of the city's drop-off stations. Free mulch is available at both locations.
The city's drop-off stations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. They will reopen for normal business hours at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 2. The Brennan Drop-Off Station is located at 2400 Brennan Ave. in North Fort Worth, and the Southeast Drop-Off Station is located at 5150 Martin Luther King, Jr. Freeway, one-half mile east of the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and Village Creek Road.
Contact the city's Customer Service Center at 817-392-EASY (3279) for more information on pickup schedules, use of the drop-off stations and what can be disposed of at the drop-off stations.
