Holiday Schedule for
Garbage and Recycling Pickup

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's are the only holidays that garbage and recycling will not be picked up.  No other holidays during the year will be affected.  Here's how the three holidays above may change service this year.

Thanksgiving Holiday, Thursday, November 22, 2007

If your regular pickup day is:

Monday, November 19, there is no change
Tuesday, November 20, there is no change
Wednesday, November 21, there is no change
Thursday, November 22, pickup changes to Friday, November 23
Friday, November 23, pickup changes to Saturday, November 24

Christmas Holiday, Tuesday, December 25, 2007

If your regular pickup day is:
Monday, December 24, there is no change
Tuesday, December 25, pickup changes to Wednesday, December 26
Wednesday, December 26, pickup changes to Thursday, December 27
Thursday, December 27, pickup changes to Friday, December 28
Friday, December 28, pickup changes to Saturday, December 29

New Year's Holiday, Tuesday, January 1, 2008

If your regular pickup day is:

Wednesday, January 2, pickup changes to Thursday, January 3
Thursday, January 3, pickup changes to Friday, January 4
Friday, January 4, pickup changes to Saturday, January 5

Please call 817-392-EASY (3279) for holiday hours for the Drop-off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center.

HOLIDAY BONUS - EXTRA BAGS
Customers may place up to two extra plastic garbage bags - weighing no more than 40 pounds each - outside the garbage cart ONLY on the first collection day after Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's.

BAD WEATHER CAN CAUSE PICKUP SCHEDULE CHANGES
Unfortunately, bad weather may slow or cancel service. Ice, sleet, or snow can cause the large collection trucks to have safety issues while operating equipment and driving.  In situations like this, the city will cancel or delay service.

Please check Environmental Management's Web site:  www.fortworthgov.org/dem (click on Garbage and Recycling button) for cancellation notices, delays or updates.  Or, you may call Customer Service at 817-392-EASY (3279).

If bad weather causes a cancellation, your pickup day slides to the next day, similar to the holiday schedule. All other pickup days in the city slide one day forward, as well. If bad weather causes a start delay, the city's contractor will service carts beyond their regular scheduled time.

If the following day remains icy or dangerous for collection, the city may cancel services for that day as well. Usually the decision to cancel or delay service that day is made by 10 a.m.

MISSED PICKUP?
If you think your garbage or recycling has been missed, please call Customer Service at 817-392-3279 within 24 hours from the end of your collection day. Normally, collection days end by 7 p.m.

GOT EXTRA TRASH DURING THE YEAR?

THREE WAYS TO GET RID OF IT

1) Keep Pay Bags On Hand. (City-authorized plastic Pay Bags are optional to purchase. They are not required.)

Pay Bags are a great way to get rid of extra trash you may have during the year from family reunions to special celebrations.  Pay bags are collected weekly on your pickup day. Any other plastic bag outside the cart can result in a notice of violation with a service fee (unless you take advantage of the bonus Holiday bags put out after Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's). Bags are available in sets of five for $15 plus tax, which includes disposal.

Order Pay Bags by calling 817-392-EASY (3279). Bags can be mailed to you and charged on your water bill. Or purchase at one of the city's water bill pay stations located at:

  908 Monroe
  Minyard's at 4245 E. Berry St. or
Carnival Food Store at 102 NW 28th St.

2) Upsize your garbage cart.
If you have excess trash regularly, you should consider upsizing your garbage cart. It's less expensive to upsize your garbage cart than to buy Pay Bags regularly.

3) Use Drop-off Stations.
Take extra trash to the city's Drop-off Stations for free. Call 817-392-EASY (3279) to find more information about the Drop-off Stations.
